One of my goals this year is to read at least one book every month. This is to satisfy that “reader” in me. Given a choice, I would love to just sit down for two hours and enjoy some uninterrupted reading time each day. Since that is not possible at the moment, this year, I allotted at least 40 minutes each week to catch up with this hobby.
To make sure I’ll follow through, I joined the Women on Writing bloggers community. Not only does this group encourage me to write more, we actually support up and coming writers.
Last month, I was able to finish the book Georgia Stories on my Mind by Jackie Rod. What made this book stand out is that it is a collection of short stories where the setting was in the state of Georgia. It has that “Southern” warm and fuzzy feeling found in Hallmark movies without the dragging scenes.
Each story, which is about twenty pages or a chapter long contains enough details to stir one’s imagination, get to know the characters and enjoy the journey without spending hours to know the ending. Jackie Rod has an amazing talent of catching the reader’s attention, getting them engaged and efficiently delivering her message. All the words she used has a purpose. Her editing skills are amazing too!
If you are short in time just like me, this book is great to have on hand. One can finish a nice, feel good story without having to commit hours.
